India devised and stuck to wise policies

During my two-week visit to India, I asked several top officials the same question: Why is India growing at twice the rate of Latin America and lifting a larger percentage of its people out of poverty? The answers I got were amazingly candid, and on the mark.

Before we get into the details, lets state for the record that Indias economy has been growing steadily for the past 15 years, reaching 8 percent annual growth for the past two years. By comparison, Latin America has grown by about 4.5 percent over the past two years.

And lets also note that there are some facts about India that few of us would want to emulate in Latin America, such as this countrys outlawed but very-much-alive caste system, its widespread custom of arranged marriages and the gender-based abortions that, according to some reports, have resulted in the deaths of up to 10 million unborn female babies over the past two decades by families wanting males.
