British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships early career researchers to strengthen their experience of research

British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships
This scheme is designed to enable outstanding early career researchers to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university environment, and thus develop their curriculum vitae and improve their prospects of obtaining permanent lecturing posts by the end of the fellowship. The fellowships will be tenable for three years from autumn 2007 in a UK university or other higher education institution, and are not renewable. Upto 37 postdoctoral fellowships in the humanities and social sciences will be available in this years competition. Fellows will be employees of tht institution in which they hold their award, and subject to the terms and conditions of employment of that institution. This scheme is covered under the Full Economic Costing (FEQ regime, and the academy will meet 80% of the full costs of these awards.

Requirements: Applicants are expected to be at an early stage of their career, either moving directly from the award of a doctorate, or who have held no more than one postdoctoral appointment like temporary lectureship, postdoctoral fellowship, research assistantship to date. Three particular groups of people are directly eligible: British citizens; anyone of whatever nationality who has obtained, or expects to have obtained by 30 June 2007, a doctorate from a UK university and a European Economic Area (EEA) national, who although not having obtained a doctorate from a UK university, is already resident in the UK and employed in a temporary academic post.
