Scholarship exams off to a rousing start
The Primary Scholarship Examination got under way on Monday with more than 3.5 lakh candidates taking the examinations in 2,942 centres. Held under the auspices of the Primary Education Development Board, the examinations, a substitute for the erstwhile scholarship examination held in all government schools at the crossover stage from standard four to five, will be held till February 9. This is the sixteenth year of the examination and students sat for an examination on literature in their respective mother tongues. On Tuesday, candidates will appear for the Mathematics examination.
Board secretary Kartik Saha said, We have been facing severe objections from the state government, which does not want for us to have this examination. Hence, they try to create hindrances in our path. But we are determined to have this examination because the state government has done away with the scholarship examinations from all government schools as they give no importance to merit any more and have started a system of automatic promotion instead.
