Intelsat, Hughes Expands UNOPAR’s Distance Learning Program in South America

Intelsat today announced that it extended its existing contract with Brazils Uniao Norte do Parana de Ensino S/A (UNOPAR) to offer additional capacity via Intelsats IS-1R satellite, enabling UNOPAR to broaden distribution of its distance learning program.

UNOPAR officials reported a significant increase in satellite transponder demand, as the popularity of their distance learning program has steadily increased. Chief Technology Officer Joao Navarro of UNOPAR said, Intelsats IS-1R satellite has an ideal coverage area that will enable our continued expansion by bringing the virtual classroom to many communities in other South American countries.
