Bihar Derecognises 471 Colleges

The Bihar government has cancelled the recognition of 471 of the state`s 650 intermediate colleges to check and control the increasing influence of the education mafia, officials said. Bihar Intermediate Education Council chairman Nageshwar Sharma confirmed that the 471 colleges were derecognised after it was detected that most of them were fake or existed only on paper. The council is the state`s apex body for intermediate education, which decides the fate of hundreds of students. The council has cancelled the recognition of these intermediate colleges with immediate effect, said Sharma. The body plans to release a list of genuine colleges

Warning students against self-styled institutions which continue to operate and offer degree programmes without government recognition, the University Grants Commission has announced a list of 20 such universities/institutions. The combined premedical test for Uttar Pradesh was postponed today following alleged leakage of the question paper with the authorities arresting four persons in this connection here.
