ICAI launches insurance scheme, study circles The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has launched a Group Insurance Scheme for its members and their spouses. In this, regard, the Chartered Accountants Benevolent Fund of ICAI signed an agreement with the Life Insurance Corporation of India. In addition to this, the Council has decided to promote weekly study circles for continuous professional learning among students. Select members would guide students while eminent resource persons will address them.
A dress code for practicing CAs will be out by August end, with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India giving finishing touches to the recommendatory proposal to give its professionals a corporate look and don a new brand identity. However, according to TN Manoharan, ICAI president it will not be mandatory.
Exam Rescheduled The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will conduct its Common Proficiency Test (CPT) on August 26, 2007, since it was not conducted as per schedule on August 5, due to leakage of the paper. All students who were issued admit cards for the August 5 CPT exam, will be eligible to appear for the same on August 26, and will be issued fresh admit cards without any further payment of fee. Ip Day Celebrated The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) celebrated the World Intellectual Property Day on April 26. ICAI has been encouraging innovative talent and has been endeavouring to promote education of all the potential actors in the IPR regime, said Sunil Talati, president, ICAI. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has introduced a number of measures to update examination and training. Now candidates can register for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) after clearing 10th boards as compared to the existing scheme where they could only register after their 12th board result. The CPT exam will now be an objective paper of 200 marks and will be held once in three months across the country. Earlier, the CPT exam was held once in six months. ICAI is also negotiating with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to exempt PE-II/PCE-pass students from taking certain papers in the latters commerce programme. The institute is in talks, seeking the waiver, with other universities as well. Many universities already consider the CA qualification as equivalent to a postgraduate qualification to do a doctoral programme.

THE Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has proposed a new scheme of education. Under this scheme, a student will be able to enrol for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) any time after passing the Class X examination. However, one will be allowed to take the CPT only after appearing for the 10+2 examination. On qualifying, the student will have to undergo practical training for three-and-a-half years. During the training, the student will have to qualify for two examinations the Professional Competence Examination (PCE) after 18 months, and the final Examination during the last six months.
