Scholarship Established In Memory Of Former Student
Friends and family of Michael A. Scillitani, III, have established a scholarship fund in honor of the Garden City High School graduate, who attended Garden City Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. Michael was enrolled at Palm Beach Community College and about to transfer to Florida Atlantic University as an accounting major when he was killed in an automobile accident in 2005
Those who knew Michael remember him as a great lover of music with a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious zest for life, according to his friend, Karen Cooney, Garden City High School Class of 2002. Soon after Michaels death, a group of his friends led by Ms. Cooney approached Michaels mother, Donna Emanuele, about the possibility of commemorating her son.
A fundraiser and many discussions about a fitting memorial followed. When I think of Michael I always remember how much he made me laugh and his joy in life, Ms. Cooney said. We decided that the best way we could honor Michael would be to establish a scholarship for students who shared his enthusiasm and love for music.
