ELECTRONICS FOR DYSLEXICS
Olympic rowing champion Steve Red grave has called on UKs government for an institution along the lines of the National Instructional Materials Access Centre, US, which receives educational materials in electronic form from publishers before converting them into alternative formats for supply to schools. The athlete recently fronted the launch of Dolphin Computer Access, software that can convert documents such as textbooks into formats such as Braille, large-print and audio books. The 44-year-old winner of five Olympic gold medals is dyslexic, as are two of his three children. There are 2,30,000 children in England with statements identifying special educational needs.
