Oak Grove student captures $16,000 scholarship

An Oak Grove High School senior who scored a perfect 36 on his ACT won a $16,000 scholarship Friday in the annual STAR Student competition.

James Thompson, who plans on majoring in pre-med/chemistry at Millsaps College, was named the second runner-up in the Mississippi Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition program held in Clinton.

The top finishers were:

– William Everett, East Rankin Academy, was the top finisher and received a $24,000 scholarship. He also scored a 36 on his ACT and is a National Merit Finalist.
