Retail Avenue According to the latest survey by FICCI, the retail industry is expected to grow into a USD 427 billion industry by 2010, which is good news for all the students pursuing retail management courses. Currently estimates put the size of the industry at USD 328 billion. Most B-schools have also taken notice of this opportunity and introduced new courses in the field of Retail Management. Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) launches new courses in fashion merchandising and retailing. These are PG Diploma in Retail Management for graduates and three years' Diploma in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management for 10+2 students. The courses would help students to predict styles and trends and evaluate the needs of the target market. "In the coming days we will see Indian fashion competing with the best in the world and India will emerge as a fashion hub in the global market," said Shashi Bhushan Shukla, secretary, FDDI. AIT has started a postgraduate programme in Retail Management for graduates AIT starts Retail Management course The Ansal Institute of Technology (AIT) has started a postgraduate programme in Retail Management for graduates aspiring to take up positions in the retail sector. Every student will undergo a six-month paid industry internship, preferably at the Pantaloons Stores, as part of this 18-month course, to be completed in six terms of three months each.
Indian Retail School (IRS) has introduced a new course in lifestyle retailing as it opens for admissions to its various full-time courses in retail education. The institute also offers one-year advanced programmes in retail management and retail entrepreneur-ship. The test for all its programmes will be conducted on June 25. Retail banking degree from Barclays Retail banking degree from Barclays Barclays has launched the UKs first retail banking degree in partnership with Nottingham Business School. No tuition fees, a guaranteed job after graduation, and a wage while you study is on offer with Barclays hoping to lure top students to a career with the bank, as reported in The Guardian. AIT, Pantaloon tie up Ansal Institute of Technology (AIT), Gurgaon, has collaborated with Pantaloon Group to jointly launch a two-year postgraduate diploma in Retail Management. Also, the institute is negotiating with Coca-Cola, Fortis Healthcare and Ba-jaj Allianz Insurance. It has announced that the cola major will prepare students for retailers and floor managers job. AIT says it is consulting Fortis to start an MBA programme in Healthcare Management and some short-term courses in association with Bajaj Allianz Insurance. The agreement with Pantaloon promises students opportunity for internship with the retail company.

The National Retail Federation Foundation starts NRF University The NRF Foundation, the research and education division of the National Retail Federation, has created NRF University wired to offer online curriculum to more than 20 million retail employees across the country. The nonprofit has teamed up with three major partners to complete the initiative. It has selected GeoLearning Inc., a managed learning service, as technology provider of the long-distance learning platform.
