Indias First EUDSAT Network To Be Set Up At GNDU
The Guru Nanak Dev University will be the first University in the country to set-up an Education Satellite (EDUSAT) network on its campus.
University Vice Chancellor SP Singh said the Director, Development and Educational Communication Unit of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Ahmedabad has given his approval for the project which would be set up at an initial cost of Rs 2 crores.
The University plans to connect via EDUSAT all affiliated colleges and Associate Institutes under Distance Education Programme from the current academic session 2005-06 and the facility would be used for telecasting lectures by experts in various fields and sharing information about higher education, he said.
In addition to online live lectures, the University also plans to have connectivity with other higher education channels and bodies like AICTE, Consortium of Educational Communication (CEC) for realizing full potential of the project.
EDUSATs full potential could be envisioned in terms of E-connectivity for information sharing relating to all aspects of education like schemes of UGC, AICTE, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Department of Science and Technology (DST).
Though several institutions in India are telecasting lectures through channels like Gyan Darshan, Eklavaya, Vyas, DD Bharti, they are not interactive, he said adding two-way communication under EDUSAT would make it more useful.
