Education provides confidence for former Cogdell scholarship recipient, bilingual instructor

Born and raised in Mexico, Lucy Arenivas always carried the desire for education within her.

I loved to go to school and I always had good grades, but my parents were very strict with me. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be able to go out with friends to watch movies in a theater, but theaters were a big no-no for me, she wrote in a letter to Bill Pace Cogdell Scholarship trustees.

When she was 16, Arenivas got out of school early and decided to go to a movie without telling her parents. When her father found out, he told her she wasnt allowed to return to school.
