There is a Need for Clear Vision and Strategy to Plan and Provide For An Appropriate Training

There is a need for clear vision and strategy to plan and provide for an appropriate training intervention to meet the challenge of facilitating and expediting the silent revolution brought about by the 73rd Constitutional Amendment on one hand and Information Communication Technology (ICT) on the other. It is also being realised that time bound and systematic training intervention to provide required attitudinal orientation and skills is a prerequisite for the success of such a revolution.

In order to address the above, the National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education of the Indira Gandhi National Open University in collaboration with the ministry of panchayati raj is convening a Brainstorming Session on Capacity Building - Exploring Mixed Mode of Training Intervention on May 2, 2007 at EMPC. IGNOU. The basic objective of this session is to discuss and explore possibility of a systematic and well coordinated training intervention through mixed mode, where both conventional and distance education modes can be effectively integrated to achieve the desired impact, ft is expected to be attended by the senior officers of the ministry of panchayati Raj, vice-chancellors of the state open universities, and renowned experts in the field.

The session will be inaugurated by Mani Shankar Aiyer, minister for panchayati raj, youth affairs and sports and development of the North East Region. It will be presided by V N Rajasekharan Pillai, vice-chancellor, IGNOU.
