College is tough, and for the nontraditional student, the experience is grueling when a job and commuting take up so much precious time.
Luckily, many local colleges are recognizing this need and offering alternatives to traditional college programs. Marist College, Bard College, the State University of New York at New Paltz, Empire State College, Dutchess and Ulster community colleges all offer programs to ease the burden on students.
Helise Winters, director of Extension/Distance Learning at SUNY New Paltz, said technology is rapidly changing the way students learn. Online classes offer flexibility in time and location, while newer interactive television classes provide a real-time learning experience in convenient locations.
