Door prizes and the chance to get a higher education were all available at the annual education fair held April 25 at NSB Kings Bay. The fair was held to introduce civilians and Sailors as well as their family members to the Navy College Program Distance Partnership and Apprenticeship Programs.
In todays Navy, an education is a very important tool to have. To be promoted to senior chief, Sailors must have an associates degree or better. According to NSB Kings Bay Navy College Director Susan Wheless, Navy College has the programs to help Sailors further their careers.
I feel that this is a good way for people to find out what is available to them educationally, said Wheless. Now that the Navy is requiring Sailors to have an associates degree in order to be promoted to E-8, the schools that are being represented at the fair are the schools that have the rate relative degrees that can be posted in their service records, which can give them the ability to get promoted quicker.
