EDS to Supply Satellite Communications for Federal Agencies

EDS today announced it has been selected by the U.S. General Services Administration to provide end-to-end satellite communications services to all federal government agencies under the Satellite Services-II (SATCOM-II) contract. EDS is one of 24 companies that may compete for task orders under the five-year, $750 million Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract.

These services will allow agencies to obtain satellite communications bandwidth, as well as a range of applications such as distance learning, emergency response/continuity of operations planning, streaming video, telemedicine, broadcast satellite service, and design, engineering and maintenance support services. Users of the contract will benefit from its flexibility, competitive pricing and continuous competition across a broad range of services.

The EDS team includes many leading providers of communications and networking services. IntelSat and Loral will provide bandwidth, teleport and network operations center services. GlobalSat will serve as the teams primary equipment supplier and will also provide bandwidth and services. Cisco Systems, an EDS Agility Alliance partner, and Scientific Atlanta, will provide distance learning solutions. Rome Research will establish and manage teleports at client locations, and Atlanta Network Systems will provide on-site satellite installations.
