IPR Awareness The Motion Picture Association (MPA) has announced distribution plans for comic strips based on a 23-minute documentary titled Whats It to Me? Creativity, Copyright and the People Who Care About Them (and Dont)- The announcement was made at a recent anti-piracy seminar at the Law Faculty, Delhi University (DU), which was aimed at showcasing the different points of view that students bring to a discussion about intellectual property rights. Inclusive Education Samadhan, an NGO dedicated to the service of children with intellectual disabilities from underprivileged homes, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Pramila Balasundaram, founder director - Samadhan, began the celebrations at the India International Centre by highlighting the milestones of he NGO and also briefly summarising the benefits of drama therapy for these children. Samadhan has also won the World Bank award for its innovative approach in providing services for children with mental handicaps living in low socio-economic areas, besides an award of recognition from Inclusion International.
NRI Vinod Gupta, who has funded a string of educational institutes in India, is investing $2-2.5 million on setting up the country`s first school on intellectual property rights (IPR). The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Law will be set up at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, from where Gupta graduated in 1967. The human resource development ministry has given its go-ahead. The institute will provide world-class legal education in the intellectual property space, leading to post-graduate degrees in law and later doctorate programmes, Gupta, who is probably the only American Indian to stay overnight in the White House

ICAI launches insurance scheme, study circles The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has launched a Group Insurance Scheme for its members and their spouses. In this, regard, the Chartered Accountants Benevolent Fund of ICAI signed an agreement with the Life Insurance Corporation of India. In addition to this, the Council has decided to promote weekly study circles for continuous professional learning among students. Select members would guide students while eminent resource persons will address them.

Aptech, has Inaugurated a state-of-the-art training centre in Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia ICAI seeks waiver The Delhi-based Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has asked the Ministry of Human Reource Development to make commerce a part of the curriculum from Class VIII. ICAI is also negotiating with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to exempt PE-II/PCE-pass students from taking certain papers in the latters commerce programme. The institute is in talks, seeking the waiver, with other universities as well. Many universities already consider the CA qualification as equivalent to a postgraduate qualification to do a doctoral programme.
Fulbright-Case fellowships in law USEFI and the Case School of Law, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, U S, have jointly established the Fulbright-Case fellowships in law. Under this programme, fellowships will be awarded to two Indian law graduates, for a period of one academic year to do their LLM with a clinical focus on either Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) or Mediation/Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) at the Case School of Law. The grant will provide a monthly stipend, health insurance, round-trip economy class air travel, modest allowances for settling-in, books and supplies and tuition fees. Source Times of India Date 2006-08-08 Information The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is planning to introduce a common proficiency test (CPT) (similar to CET for professional course students) for the entry to the chartered accountancy course from September this year, according to T N Manoharan, president, ICAI, New Delhi. The first CPT test will be held on November 12, for which a draft scheme of the new curriculum has been notified by the Government of India. The entire CPT will be objective type for 200 marks.
