Dr. Rebekah K. Nix, a senior lecturer in the Teacher Development Center at The University of Texas at Dallas, won the 2007 Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching Gold Award for her work in developing and offering online courses in UT Dallas Master of Arts in Teaching Science Education program. The award was presented to Nix last evening at the United States Distance Learning Associations (USDLA) national conference in Kansas City.
The awards are presented by USDLA to individuals whose programs demonstrate extraordinary achievement in scholarly research and writing, leadership and service, including contributions that foster a better understanding of the use of distance learning for teaching or training purposes.
Nixs classes are offered through the UT TeleCampus (www.uttc.org), a unit of The University of Texas System that works with all 15 member institutions to create and deliver high-quality online courses, degree programs and support services for distance learners. Nix was instrumental in the development of the 36-hour Master of Arts in Teaching Science Education program, which stresses training in the art of teaching and advanced knowledge in a selected area of natural science.
