Dr. Rebekah K. Nix, a lecturer in UTD’s Teacher Development Center, has been cited by the United States Distance Learning Association for demonstrating extraordinary achievement in scholarly research and writing, leadership and service, including contributions that foster a better understanding of the use of distance learning for teaching or training purposes.
Through the efforts of Dr. Nix, there’s now a 36-hour Master of Arts in Teaching Science Education program available through UT Telecampus, which is all about making online courses available to… well… those who choose to learn from a distance, which would be defined (the way I understand it) as being from anywhere outside the radius of the lecture hall.
Known in the parlance of the day as distance learners (which gives this group something of the cachet of outer space aliens), these beneficiaries of Dr. Nix’s online programming will be able to obtain their MA from as far away as - for instance - Twin Sisters, Texas.
