Scholarships For Indian Engineers In Pisa

The cooperation between Italy and India in the engineering sector is growing. St Annes School in Pisa offered 15 scholarships to Indian computer engineers to attend the International Master on Information Technology. The master will be held in Pisa starting September 19, 2005, and will last a year, said the Indian Chamber of Commerce, which promoted the master at Indian universities and cooperated in the selection of candidates and all the secretarial work in India. The master will involve 8 months of schooling and 4 of practical experience in industries in the sector. It should be considered that about 62 pct of production of Italian engineering agencies is accomplished abroad.

For Italian companies that work in this industry, India is still a niche market, but undoubtedly has very advantageous conditions. Among the already present companies in this sector is Tecnimont, associated to the local Italian Chamber of Commerce. The company, which is led by Rosario Alessandrello, started working in India in the 30s and built fifty plants in the whole country to produce fertilizers and chemical products and later strengthened its position there in the 90s. Eventually it decided to move a large part of its engineering production to Ticb, the Indian joint venture, headquartered in Mumbai, with which it is currently competing for contracts which for a value of over 700 million euro.

Also Ferrari uses Indian technology. The software installed on the F1 cars has been realized by TCS, which has its headquarters in Mumbai too.
