Eighth-graders get scholarship money

Filed under:

Thirty-three eighth-graders from Lexington Middle School were awarded $3,000 scholarships Thursday evening during the Project Potential banquet at the J. Smith Young YMCA.

The program, which has been providing scholarships to students in Davidson County since 1996, awards eighth-grade students who committee members believe have potential for college but may not be able to afford it.

After the students are nominated by teachers and guidance counselors, they go through an interview process by the Project Potential committee. The money awarded to the students comes from local businesses and individuals.
