Nobel-prize winner Jack Kilby dies

The Nobel Prize-winning inventor of the integrated circuit(IC) Jack Kilby, who laid the foundation for the computer and electronics industries, has died. He was battling with cancer.and was 81.

He won the Nobel for physics in 2000 for his invention, which laid the foundation for modern microelectronics. He also invented the first monolithic integrated circuit which brought revolution into the electronics.

During the 20 years following his discovery, products made possible by his semiconductor helped the electronics industry grow 20 fold. Kilby is also considered as a pioneer among handful of people whose works have truly transformed the world and the way we live in it.
