IKs now open
On June 4,2007, Education Times reported the mismanagement of information kiosks (IKs) at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) headquarters at Maidan Garhi, also citing how the website, considered an instant source of information, had not been updated for weeks.
Within 24 hours of publication, the university management came into action, demanding explanations for the complacence shown. The website is now being updated on a daily basts, while the employee e-mail service that had not been working properly of late, was repaired the same day. According to sources at IGNOU, a core committee will also be formed for the countrywide implementation of the IK initiative.
Although no tough action has been initiated against the erring officials, V N Rajasekharan Pillai, vice-chancellor, IGNOU, has sent a strong message to the university staff to ensure that similar negligence was not repeated.
