Butternut School Board adopts motion to consider consolidation with Park Falls by 2008-09

The Butternut School Board unanimously adopted a resolution Monday, June 18, to consider consolidation with the Park Falls School District, opening the way for consolidation of the two districts by the start of the 2008-09 school year if the Park Falls School Board adopts a similar resolution before June 30.

Superintendent Bruce LaRose advised board members on the way the resolution had to be worded to meet the deadline requirement, adding that signatures of board members also were required. The resolution does not require the district to consolidate, but it was a necessary prerequisite for adopting an order to consolidate, which the board would have to adopt before the end of July in order to be effective for consolidation by 2008-09.

The consolidation order, and consolidation orders adopted by the Park Falls and Glidden districts if their boards decide to proceed, would be binding.
