HE algebra of complex numbers is challenging, while the deep analytical facet of geometry, differential calculus, electrochemistry and thermal physics, to name a few, are well worth fathoming. But only if you aspire to hit an ace with the top-notch engineering institutions in the country the seven IITs.
The race is hard, what with the preparation for the IIT entrance exams itself being a tough call. And with several coaching classes mushrooming in the city, churning out the best candidates has also become competitive. From the style of coaching to holding seminars to giving personal attention to all students, these classes are adopting different ways to generate more students.
Interestingly, a majority of these classes select students after conducting their own entrance tests on subjects like maths, science and logical reasoning. The test is given to gauge a students basic aptitude for the IIT course, says Prashant Agarwal, centre director of Career Point that charges a fee of around Rs 50,000 for two years. While M Prakash Academy that started its tutorials in early June, conducts its entrance test in mid-April. We have a four-hour test on maths and science and we choose the best 80 out of the lot, says director M Prakash.
