V N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), was conferred the 5th Prof. M.V Pylee Award for the Distinguished Academician of India-2006 in Cochin recently. The award has been instituted from a corpus of Rs. 10 lakh donated by the professor, former Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology, after whom the honour is named. Presented once in three years, the award carries a purse of Rs.2 lakh, a citation and a memento. It was given by Sree Shankracharya University of Sanskrit V-C K. S. Radhakrishnan.
