The Amity Law School (ALS), New Delhi in association with the Delhi High Court Bar Association is organizing the 4th Amity National Moot Court Competition at the ALS Campus from March 4-6, 2005. Students from twelve reputed law schools from all over the country are participating in the competition. Some of the competing colleges include: Symbiosis Societys Law College- Pune; Campus Law Centre- Delhi University; BACL- Nagpur; Government Law College- Mumbai; Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College- Chennai; ILS- Pune; Army Law Institute- Mohali and the School of Law & Legal Studies- GGSIPU. The National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT) was directed by the Delhi High Court to file a detailed reply to petitions demanding deletion of specific objectionable portions in the history books for classes VI XII. The decision came after freedom fighter Shymadev Prasad Arya and Arya Jat Mahasabha filed separate petitions in this regard in Delhi High Court. The petitioners in their plea said that the history books of NCERT put Jat and Brahmin community in a bad light. These books describe Jat community as plunderers and Brahmins as beef eaters. The Delhi high court has directed the schools run by Defence Establishments to follow the pay scale set by the Directorate of Education in giving salaries to their teaching and non-teaching staff. Disappointed with Allahabad High Court`s verdict Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is all set to challenge the order which deprived the status of university as a minority institution. The Supreme Court (SC) in a recent order has stated that the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Distance Education Council (DEC) have no authority over any university offering programmes through distance mode. The apex court said this while hearing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) by IGNOU and DEC against the Himachal High Court ruling in March 2006, in reference to Punjab Technical University (PTU)'s study centres outside Punjab. The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered that a successful candidate should be allowed to take up his counselling for admission to Delhi University`s Bachelor of Engineering (BE) course scheduled on Aug 17. The honourable Supreme Court will hear the application form of the All-India Medical and Engineering Colleges Association on October 21, regarding the vacant seats. In the application the association is seeking permission to fill the vacant seats in 165 dental and paramedical colleges in 22 states.
