Philadelphia - Increasing specialization, a demand for more higher education and a new need to worry about the bottom line are all challenges facing job seekers today - and for the nonprofit sector as well. Nonprofits have grown from small organizations to a sizable chunk of the job market. A 2005 study by La Salle Universitys Nonprofit Center estimated that there are 9,000 paid jobs at nonprofits in the Delaware Valley.
Enlargement affects the way that such firms do business in the city and the way that potential employees go about getting hired.
Within Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University and La Salle University all offer some form of certification or workshop training aimed at workers in nonprofits. Simultaneously, private individuals have begun job-coaching services aimed at the nonprofit sector. All of these programs are growing to meet new demands within the sector.
