A KENYAN mother is the only Scottish-based student to have been awarded a special scholarship for completing a course despite considerable obstacles.
Kiran Upadhayay had to flee an abusive relationship and found herself in Edinburgh with two children and no home or money.
Despite that, three years later she has completed an HNC course at Stevenson College, is preparing to go to Edinburgh University to study social work, and has been awarded the £1000 Helena Kennedy Foundation grant.
