Chandy who was speaking at a function on Saturday evening to mark the opening of the new Silver Jubilee Block of Sharjah Indian School (SIS) assured the large gathering of Indians that his government will address all the problems faced by parents in providing higher education to their children back home.
He declared the Dh12.5 million Silver Jubilee Block of the boys section of SIS open, and appreciated SIS for its rapid growth and excellent standard of education being provided over the years.
He also thanked the Sharjah Ruler for his kind gesture in providing the land for the construction of the school that currently caters to 5,500 Indian children.
The function was also attended by Kerala Minister of Sports and Fisheries Dominic Presentation, Consul-General of India in Dubai Y.K. Sinha, patron of SIS Ahmed Mohammed Hamad Al Midfa, President of Indian Association Sharjah (IAS) Y.A. Rahim, Principal of SIS K.N.N. Pillai, Kerala lawmaker P.P. George, General secretary of IAS
Balakrishnan K., and treasurer Ravindran.
Principal Pillai said SIS, which started in 1979 under the ownership, and management of IAS with only 346 students is currently the third in the UAE in student strength.
He pointed out that since the separation of the boys and girls wings with the completion of the silver jubilee block in November last year, the school runs 97 sections for girls and 64 sections for boys.
The bifurcation has also relieved boys from the stress of the afternoon shift and has helped them to work more efficiently, Pillai added.
