Secondary School students can now apply for the Junior College of their choice - even before taking their preliminary and O level examinations.
The Education Ministry announced on Monday that this years O level cohort will be the first to benefit from more flexible admission criteria which JCs have put in place.
So students wont have to rely on their results alone to get in.
The criteria for entry varies from school to school, and these are listed online on the homepages of the institutions.
Schools said they were looking for students with academic excellence and talent in one or more of these areas - sports, arts, leadership and service. The Direct School Admission Exercise consists of two phases. The first phase comprises three stages in which all pre-university institutions will take part.
Schools will shortlist and make confirmed offers to students during the offer stage, between May 30 and July 12. Then the student is guaranteed a place if he accepts it during the acceptance stage from July 13 to 15. But he can cancel the acceptance during the cooling-off stage - July 18 to 20.
The second phase takes place from July 18 to 26, where other institutions can make confirmed offers to students. The acceptance stage Phase 2 is from July 27 to 29.
