Distance Education’s Role in Rural Schools to Be Examined

The department of education reform at the University of Arkansas will examine questions about how distance education can be used to help rural schools satisfy academic requirements at a free conference Sept. 28 in Rogers.

Panelists at the event at Embassy Suites in Rogers include Karen Ghidotti, director of the Arkansas Virtual Academy in Little Rock, and Pam Scarber, assistant education director for the Arkansas Educational Television Network, as well as state senators Jimmy Jeffress, D-Crossett, Kim Hendren, R-Gravette, and Steve Bryles, D-Blytheville. They will discuss legal and technical barriers to the use of distance education in Arkansas and the demand for services. The conference runs from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. A continental breakfast will be available starting at 7:30 a.m., and lunch will be served at noon.

The event is open to the public and there is no registration fee.
