USAID Announces $ 1 million grant for the improvement of education in Africa

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is $ 1 million to fund 20 grants planning partnership of $ 50,000 to plan long-term cooperation between African and American universities .

The cooperation with the National Association of public universities and the country-Grant Colleges (NASULGC), USAID assistance to the building of African university education and solve Africa’s problems and USA Higher Education Initiative. Emphasis will be placed in areas such as agriculture, health, science and technology, primary and secondary education, economy, technology, economics and other disciplines. The entire $ 1 million for the partnership because NASULGC grants and other share of administrative costs.

The grant was for two days Higher Education World Summit on Sustainable Development will take place April 29 and 30 of the U.S. Department of State. The conference attracted nearly 300 university president, government officials and business and government leaders Foundation in Washington, worldwide.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with a $ 100000 grant to build NASULGC, providing a framework for Africa and the USA Higher Education Collaboration initiative. New funds for universities to develop partnerships and training capabilities for solving agricultural problems in African universities.

The U.S. Africa Higher Education initiative is headed by NASULGC partnership with cutting hunger and poverty in Africa, the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa, Higher Education for Development and the American Distance Education Consortium as important partners. More than a dozen other academic organizations, embassies in Africa and other organizations are also present.
