Chiefs of IITs across the country met in New Delhi on Wednesday to decide on how to fill up the vacant seats reserved for SC and ST candidates.
“A few seats for SC/ST candidates are lying vacant in the six new IITs. A final decision will be taken at the meeting on how to fill them up,” IIT Delhi Director Surendra Prasad said.
The government has started six new IITs from this session. The activities of the new institutes are managed by the older institutes which are acting as mentors for the new ones.
At least ten seats for the SC/ST are lying vacant in IIT Punjab. Similarly, there are certain vacancies in the other new IITs, he said.
The meeting will also decide on the preparatory courses to be provided to students who may be taken against the vacant seats.
