To reach out to more students in imparting technical education, the IIT-Delhi has launched courses through distant mode.
The elite institute is imparting a course on pilot basis to a few employees of certain industries in Noida, its director Prof Surendra Prasad told PTI today.
“This is not any degree programme. It is a need-based programme of certain industries,” he said.
The courses are run through internet. The students get access to the theory classes sitting at their industrial units, he said.
The students can interact with the teachers on the internet and clarify their doubts, he said.
“This programme is being run on a pilot basis. If we succeed, we will set up a distant education council and start more courses,” he said.
The courses under distant mode will have less practical component and more theory. If there is requirement of practical classes, the students will have to come to the institute laboratory, Prasad said.
The industries will pay a nominal amount towards the courses.
“It is aimed at skill development of the employees of the industries in specific areas,” he said.
The course being imparted is an one-semester programme.
