SC verdict or not, CET from May 3

Even as the Supreme Courts verdict is awaited, the cabinet sub-committee on CET, headed by deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah, has directed the CET Cell to go ahead with the entrance test from May 3.
The sub-committee has directed the Cell to be all set for the exam even if there is a delay in the SC ruling.
At the meeting, we also discussed what to do if the decision goes in favour of the private college managements. We have to be ready for any situation, and we are looking at how best the students interest can be protected under various circumstances, an official of the medical education department said.
The sub-committee has given its nod to register the six new government medical colleges in Bidar, Shimoga, Raichur, Mandya, Hassan and Belgaum as autonomous societies under the Karnataka Societies Act so that they can enjoy maximum autonomy and flexibility in administration.
Appointment of professors at the six medical colleges will be completed by first week of May, following which a list of the appointees will be sent to the Medical Council of India before its inspection.
About 20 new nursing colleges, two dental colleges and an ayurveda college have got clearance from the sub-committee. Several medical and dental colleges that had applied for increase in intake have been given the nod subject to final approval by the cabinet.
The sub-committee has decided to grant essentiality certificate to these colleges. The list will be sent to the Medical Council, Nursing Council and Dental Council, which will inspect these colleges before approving the increase in intake, primary and secondary education minister R. Ramalinga Reddy said.
