The Outreach School in Wilson Garden promises to make learning a fun- filled activity.
The curriculum is tailored to suit the tastes and interests of children, one where practicals overtake theory.
The prinicpal, Ms Zai Whittaker, hopes to incorporate the montessori method at Outreach to beyond the first three years, besides a mixed group where children of various age groups mingle and learn at their levels of comfort. This will mean group work, individualised teaching and the element of choice allowing the child to choose what he/she would like to do at a particular time, said Ms Whittaker.
Whittaker, a die hard environmentalist and naturalist, has incorporated environmental science as an extracurricular activity. Planting trees, going out on small expeditions top the list of outdoor activity. She hopes to inculcate social awareness in children, to help them develop a healthy respect for people across different cultures.
Whittaker intends to cultivate the habit of reading among children. She has begun stacking the library with the choicest of books.
