The first arrest in the sensational Combined Engineering Entrance (CEE) test conducted by the Delhi University by the Anti-corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) . The CBI registered a case against 21 students and some unknown officials of Delhi University for alleged malpractices in the CEE-2005 for Delhi College of Engineering.
The accused identified as Himanshu Kumar was arrested from Bangalore on Tuesday. Himanshu, the first to be held in the case, is one of the accomplices of main accused Pankaj Dhaiya and his brother Praveen Dhaiya in the racket. With his arrest and the subsequent interrogation the agency has identified other culprits.
The case has been registered on the basis of a complaint from the Registrar of the Delhi University and subsequent inquiry by the investigating agency. The University alleged that in the exam of CEE-2005, some candidates had obtained exactly the same marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
CBI spokesman said that the scrutiny of the same revealed that most of the question booklets contained the key to the question paper written on the booklet itself either at the place specified for rough work or somewhere in between the pages.
During the course of investigation, CBI questioned several people, including the candidates themselves and found that they had used unfair means to get through the competitive examination with the help of a former student of DCE.
