GOFAR ink MoU for agriculture

We need to bring knowledge to the grass root level, said Dr Suresh Babu, programme leader, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Washington D C, recently.

Addressing media persons, on the collaboration of Global Open Food and Agriculture University (GOFAR) with Indian Agricultural Universities, Suresh Babu said, though India is witnessing a boom in the IT sector, the Agri area is being left behind. Our main aim is to offer highest quality education to local universities.

A MoU has already been signed with IGNOU to offer the GOFAR courses. He further said that talks are on with Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Maharashtra Open University and with Kerala University to offer these courses.

Talking to News Today, Suresh Babu said, the courses offered will be postgraduate programmes and the University is yet to decide on whether the offered courses should be through distance learning or regular mode.

Candidates will receive high quality course material and a stamp of approval from the Institute after completion. Some of the courses in the offing are Masters programme in Agro Ecology, Business Management, Water Management, Forest Management and in Fisheries
