The Government is providing free education to the children orphaned in tsunami and they would also be provided technical training to encourage self-employment if they are not interested in pursuing higher education.
Minister of State for Human Resource Development M.A.A. Fatmi informed the Lok Sabha today the Kerala Government has implemented a scheme for the sponsorship of the education expenses of the institutionalised children. For the age groups of 6-14 years and 14-18 years, alternative school facility, teaching and learning materials and uniforms are being provided.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has identified children appearing in the Board Examination who need extra coaching. The children studying in class 10th & 12th have been shifted from the remote areas to Government hostels in Port Blair.
In Pondicherry, 32 orphan children were provided financial assistance of Rs. 5400 per child for continuing the school education for one year, he informed.
