    UGC Gives List Of 20 Fake Universities

    Warning students against self-styled institutions which continue to operate and offer degree programmes without government recognition, the University Grants Commission has announced a list of 20 such universities/institutions.

    While admitting that mushrooming of fake universities was a matter of great concern, the UGC reiterated that the identified institutions were not established as per Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 and so did not have the right to issue degrees.

    Once again figuring in the list are three institutes from the Capital. The Commercial University, United Nations University and Vocational University continue to operate from the city. Also in the list are the Delhi Vishwa Vidyapeeth in Model Town and ADR Centric Juridical University at Gopala Tower in Rajender Place here.

    The others listed include Maithili University, Darbanga, Bihar; Mahila Gram Vidyapith, Prayag, Allahabad; Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi; Indian Educational Council of U.P. in Lucknow; Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Prayag; and National University of Electro Complex Homoeopathy, Kanpur.

    The other institutes in the list are Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University (Open University) Chantal, Aligarh; DDB Sanskrit University, Putur, Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu; St.John`s University, Krishnattam; Uttar Pradesh Vishwavidyalaya, Kosi Kalan, Mathura; Maharana Pratap Shiksha Niketan Vishwavidyalaya, Pratapgarh; Raja Arabic University, Nagpur; Kesarwani Vidyapith, Jabalpur; Badaganvi Sarkar World Open University Education Society, Belgaum; Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow; and Handwriting University India, Bangalore.

    14 nabbed over fake certificates Police on Friday arrested 14 employees of local hotel chain Sunbird Tourism Limited on suspicion that they possessed fake Malawi Schools Certificate of Education (MSCE) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE).     The Bihar government has cancelled the recognition of 471 of the state`s 650 intermediate colleges to check and control the increasing influence of the education mafia, officials said. Bihar Intermediate Education Council chairman Nageshwar Sharma confirmed that the 471 colleges were derecognised after it was detected that most of them were fake or existed only on paper. The council is the state`s apex body for intermediate education, which decides the fate of hundreds of students.
