If your child is studying in class VI in a Delhi government school, he would soon be learning mathematics or science concepts by watching TV or by being glued to the computer in his school.
The project, a brainchild of Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, will be implemented in select government schools in a month. An MoU was signed today between Universal Elementary Education Mission (UEEM) and Ernst and Young to implement the project. Schools will now have classrooms with a computer and a 29-inch TV set for the Audio Visual presentations.
This ll be a pilot project in 200 schools. It ll be implemented in all government schools gradually, Lovely said.
Lovely added the new method will be implemented in class VI. The government schools get about two lakh new students in class VI. Most of them are from MCD schools. There is a gap between Delhi government schools class VI and MCD schools class V. As a result, most students who make this crossover, fail to grasp the subjects and lag behind.
To reduce dropouts, we thought of introducing the system of Computer Aided Learning for government school students in class 6th first, he said. Education Secretary Reena Ray said, The entire multimedia curriculum has been prepared by the government schoolteachers themselves.
Ray said software will be developed by the government, while Ernst and Young would provide the hardware, including TV sets and computers.
Education Director Vijay Kumar led the team of teachers and officials to prepare the Audio Visual capsules. Under the project, difficult concepts were taken up and an easy-to-understand module was prepared, Kumar said. The project will cost Rs 1 crore and Ernst and Young will fund it.
