B.Tech. Students Worried Over Examination Delay

Filed under:

The delay in conducting B.Tech. Examinations in engineering colleges under the Calicut University are a cause of worry for the students.

Final semester students fear that many of those who had been ensured of jobs during campus interviews may lose them if the results of the examinations were not out on time. Also, the students opting for higher studies are in a difficulty due to the delay in results. They point out that the results of final semester B.Tech. of other universities in the State were declared one or two months back. But the examinations of B.Tech. final semester in the Calicut University were over only last week.

The lagging of semesters is another concern for the students. The fourth and sixth semester examinations were not announced even after the classes for the next semesters had started. The schedule of examinations mid-semester has played havoc with other curricular and co-curricular activities in the colleges.

The delay in bringing out re-evaluation results has also put in trouble those students who cannot sit for the supplementary examinations. Thus, these students are forced to sit for examinations of two semesters at one go.

The colleges have started the next semesters even though the previous semesters` examinations are yet to be conducted. The colleges will sanction study leaves as and when the examination schedule is published.

However, Controller of Examinations P.K. Sasi said that there was no deliberate delay on the part of university to postpone examinations.

On July 22, the Vice-Chancellor assured the striking B.Tech. students that the final semester results would be declared within a month. The results will be out within the date assured by the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Sasi said.

Till recently, only teachers of Government and aided engineering colleges were appointed for valuation works.

Last year, the Syndicate sanctioned the appointment of teachers of self-financing/ unaided engineering colleges for valuation work. This ensured sufficient teachers for valuation work. However, some principals of self-financing engineering colleges still refuse to send their teachers for valuation work. Though there is shortage of staff for tabulation works, this has not affected as they work over-time, Mr. Sasi said.

The seventh semester examinations are scheduled to start on August 5, he added.
