Appealing to the Muslim community to upgrade their standards of education in order to improve the condition of the minorities in the world, the Chairman of National Commission for Minority Educational Institutes (NCMEI), Justice (retd) M S A Siddiqui, on Sunday said that reforming the education system was the need of the hour for Muslims.
There was an urgent need for the minorities, especially Muslims, to improve the quality of education to cope up with the rest of the world, said Siddiqui who was in the city.
These days when the world is casting a shadow of doubt on the role of madrasas (in spreading Islam), it is time we consider upgrading the curriculum by making it necessary to learn English and be up to the standard of other educational institutes, added Siddiqui.
He stated that Muslims should ward off these fears as the government had no powers in the functioning of institutes that seek loan and take Central or state government aid for such upgradations in academic levels.
The commission, which was set by the Central government, has a three-point role: affiliation, dealing with complaints regarding academic curriculum, and annual general report on literacy rate.
Siddiqui also stated that madrasas across the world are being looked with suspicion and it is the duty of the religious heads to ensure that educational institutes do not become a hub for illegal activities
