Moral Values Must Along With Studies

Filed under:

The present social scenario makes one remember the adage as you sow so you reap, we are looking for juicy fruits from the trees without caring to stabilise the roots of the tree, said B V Vasanthakumar, lecturer from Government First Grade College in Kadur.

He was giving keynote address at the gathering of students at Vasavi Mahal on the National Students Day celebration organised by Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) Bhadravati unit on Wednesday.

Students should take cue from the ideals of Chandrashekar Azad, Bhagat Singhand Swamy Vivekananda who died young but lived forever in the hearts of Indians. Parents hesitate to assign responsibilities on their wards out of fond affection. These wards ignore their parents when they grow old.

Such irresponsible behaviour of the youth is the reason for the social turbulence. Five teachers formed the ABVP with a dedicated band of students to protect the interests of the students and guide them in right direction in 1949 in India, he said.

Parents dream to make their wards as doctors and computer engineers and in the process ignore to shape them as good citizens. They expect their wards to amass wealth and material comforts no matter how they make it. Colleges and universities have become industries producing graduates and postgraduates.

Moral values and ethical values are not taught in the schools. Teachers have the onerous responsibility of shaping responsible and active citizens. India has rich heritage of teachers right from the sages age to the space age. They have set an example of how to bring out the best from the students. Education without character and the science without humanity are bane on the society.

Dy SP N Lingareddy was the chief guest and he said that India future was safe and bright since she was built on the principles of cultural base and non-violence. The imbalance between the intelligence and the wise thinking was the main reason for the fading out human relations, he pointed out.
