Foundation Laid For School Building
Rs 48-lakh structure will be built by JCI (India) at the tsunami-hit Nonakuppam The government middle school, which was upgraded into a high school, would come up on two hectares
PONDICHERRY: Education is a must for young children so that a better society and future can be ensured through them, Kevin Cullinane, world president of Junior Chamber International, said on Sunday.
Laying the foundation of the Rs. 48-lakh school building, to be constructed by JCI (India) at the tsunami-hit Nonakuppam village in Ariankuppam block, near here, Mr. Cullinane said the world had become a global village and the entire humanity was on the same platform of sharing knowledge.
The gift of knowledge and learning should be passed on to the succeeding generation. Knowledge was never ending and education was for life.
Mr. Cullinane flew from Ireland to participate in the function.
Director of School Education G. Theva Needhi Dhas said that JCI (India) had expressed willingness to take up the project to mitigate the sufferings of the tsunami-hit villagers here.
The administration provided the site for construction of the school building as it would help the children of poor families. The government middle school, which was upgraded into a high school in response to the representation made by local legislator T. Jayamoorthy, would come up on two hectares.
The Government would contribute Rs. 92 lakhs. The JCI-sponsored part of the building would have four classrooms, two labs and a library.
National president of JCI India T.V.N. Murthy, treasurer V. Harishankar, T. Jayamoorthy, MLA, welcomed the school project.
