CET For Medical, Dental On Aug 14

Filed under:

The Gujarat High Court has ordered that the Common Entrance Test (CET) for management quota seats in medical, dental and bachelor of physiotherapy courses should be held on August 14 this year. This will be for the academic year 2005-06.

The bench comprising Justices MS Shah, DH Waghela and Bankim Mehta said on Friday that students who have obtained at least 70 per cent aggregate marks in theory papers of physics, chemistry and biology at the qualifying examination (HSC-science stream) conducted by the Gujarat Higher Secondary Education Board or Central Board of Secondary Education or equivalent examinations specified in the admission rules, will qualify for CET for the academic year 2005-06.

Students with 69.5 per cent or higher marks will be treated as having obtained 70 per cent marks. The court said CET will be conducted on August 14 this year as per the programme worked out by the Gujarat State Self-financed Medical and Para-medical Instututes Association and the Justice (retd) RJ Shah committee. It directed the association to give public notices in leading newspapers, announcing the CET programme and admission procedure.

The court ordered that the Shah Committee will exercise all the powers envisaged in the Supreme Court judgement in the case of Islamic Academy of Education versus the state of Karnataka, to ensure that the CET and admission process are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

The paper-setters, examiners and supervisors will be informed about the transparency aspects and any leakage of question paper or any unfair measures on the part of any person connected with the CET will be viewed seriously, and that this could expose them to severe consequences including the proceedings for contempt of court, the order said. The bench has also directed that no other court in Gujarat will entertain any litigation by any institutions, students or guardians or any other person regarding CET
