In an ambitious month-long education programme, close to 14 lakh children will be enrolled in schools under the Mukhyamantri Siksha Sambal Mahabhiyan to be kicked off on July 15. The State Government has been planning for this massive literacy programme for the past six months, having increased the education department`s budget from Rs 400 crore to over Rs 1000 crore for the current financial year.
As part of another major decision, the Government has decided to provide free textbooks to students up to Class XII. Also, in an effort to create environmental awareness among children, each student will be asked to plant a sapling to be named after the student who plants it. The forest department has been asked to provide about 15 lakh saplings in the next few days. Students` guardians will be asked to take care of their wards` saplings for a year.
In another move, the health department has prepared a plan to facilitate medical check-ups for about a crore of school-going students. The economically backward among them will be provided free medical cards under the BPL scheme.
According to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, industrial houses and charitable organisations will be persuaded to contribute towards funds for midday meal schemes in schools, free distribution of textbooks and also construction of school buildings and hostels.
As per the programme, foundation stones of about 10,000 schools and hostel buildings will be laid in the course of the next one month. BJP legislators and party functionaries will be closely involved in what is being viewed as one of the biggest programmes launched by the State Government.
On another note, Ms Raje said over 2,500 widows will be provided Government jobs and the task is to be completed over the next one month.
