In the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises kitty are institutions like Mudra Communications, which has its registered office in Ahmedabad and does business worth Rs 200 crore annually and Mudra Institute of Communications-Ahmedabad (MICA),has produced some of the finest advertising professionals in the country.
They may sound like drops in the Rs 99,000-crore Reliance ocean but mean a lot to a city like Ahmedabad, which has seen these institutions grow over the years as late Dhirubhai Ambanis efforts unfolded to form Indias largest corporate conglomerate
It has also got Dhirubhai Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) which was set up at a cost of Rs 75 crore just three years back to provide manpower back-up not only to the growing business of Reliance Info COM but also to the countrys telecom industry at large.
Ironically, after the brothers fight became public, Mukesh had attended the first convocation ceremony of DAIICT and talked about a grand vision to develop the institute.
Company sources said that Mukesh did try his best to hang on to DAIICT but lost out in the tossup between DAIICT and the international school run by Reliance in Mumbai, which his wife Neeta just did not want to part with.
Besides, of course, there was another argument that DAIICT was complementary to Anils share of the business. As a result, DAIICTs directors Sam Pitroda, Parimal Nathwani, V.V Bhatt, Paul Raj, M. A Pai, K. V Subramaniam, L.V Merchant and Hasmukh Shah have resigned, apart from Mukesh himself.
Both Mudra and MICA were under the control of Anil and as predicted it didnt come as a surprise that he had landed both these outfits. Reliance Textiles Division, whose plant at Naroda in Ahmedabad was the first industry to be set up by late Dhirubhai Ambani, has however has gone out of his hands.
So far it was Anils wife Tina who was in control of the plant and its brands Vimal and Harmony. No one at Naroda yet knows whether the prestigious Harmony Art Show held annually in Mumbai to promote the brand and encourage young artists, will continue and if so, would Tina retain the Harmony brand for the show.
