Many Students Pin Hopes On Second List
With just one more day to go before the second cut-off list of percentages for admission to Delhi University is announced on Thursday, the campus witnessed a flurry of activity on the second day of admissions this Tuesday.
But as the day progressed, and seats filled up, it was clear that not many colleges would have good news to offer for those pinning their hopes on making it to the second list.
For many students who ended up taking a different combination in their Class XII, the first session of admission has once again brought home a rude realisation that a different combination does not always help in Delhi University.
I have marketing as one of my subjects. And although my best of four with the subject would have ensured me a place in the B.A. course at Moti Lal Nehru College, I did not get admission because marketing is counted as a vocational subject here and so not included in the best of four. And without the subject, my aggregate does not come up to the demand,“ said Siddharth Banerjee, a Commerce student.
Documents
There were also those who did not have the necessary documents or forgot to check if they had applied in a certain college at all. I am eligible in many colleges, but the problem is I forgot to apply in them. Now I don`t know what to do because I can`t join the college I am eligible in and can`t rely completely on the second cut-off either,“ said Nisha Singh, a student at Gargi College.
We are expecting to close admission for many of courses such as Geography, English and Journalism. But there will be seats available in many other courses, and so a second cut-off will most definitely come. In fact, one expects the maximum movement after the second cut-off when students migrate or find themselves in a place where they may find themselves in. But a third cut-off is highly unlikely in most colleges,“ said Minotini Chatterjee, Principal of Kamla Nehru College.
Some colleges have, in fact, seen more rush than usual this time around.
We have witnessed an unexpected rise this time round. For example, in commerce alone, we have already filled up double our existing seats and there is still one more day to go. It is for the first time that we have seen such a rush. Although our cut-off will be decided only tomorrow, we don`t expect more than a drop of a percent or two,“ said an official at Moti Lal Nehru College
